What is Capoeira?

Developed by the enslaved Africans in Brazil, capoeira is a martial art disguised as a dance. Influenced by a blend of martial arts and dances from diverse African cultures, capoeira was practiced as a hidden, playful game to fool the slave owners and law enforcement. It is a blend of martial art, dance, self-defense, acrobatics & music. It is one of the most complete workouts that develops strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, rhythm, agility, reflexes, endurance and much more.

Movements, music, and Brazilian culture make capoeira classes unique and challenging. There is grace, beauty, risk, reward, danger and fun.Today it is practiced all over the world by men, women and children. Capoeira can be played by everyone; the strong and the weak, the young and the old, the blind and the deaf.
